Biogas represent a plentiful and cheap source of energy. Moreover it’s easily obtained from animal, vegetable and indutrial wastes.
1.Primary sector’s wastes (agrarian, forest, stockbreeding):
- animal wastes
- agricultural wastes
- energy cultivations
2.Secondary sector’s wastes ( food-processing industry and others):
-By-product coming from the slaughterhouse
-Transformation of vegetable products
-Effluent of oil mills, wineries, dairy industries...
-Fishing industry wastes
-glycerin, by-products coming from biodiesel production
3.Service sector’s wastes (RSU and purifier’s muds of sewage water)
These organic substances are taken to what is known as a digestor in which the bacteries break up these subtances in an environment without air and under optimum conditions. Then, the gas which is generated clears and desulphurates to be transformed in biogas.
Biogas is transformed in electrical and thermal energy in a cogeneration plant.
Part of the thermal energy is used for the biogas plant’s warming, while the surplus of heat can be used for other purposes ( farms’ heating, industrial process, etc).
In the other side, the electrical energy stocks up from the electrical network.
From manure produced by a farm with 2000 calves, we can supply the equivalent consumption of a 2500 inhabitants’village.
Likewise, biogas can be refined and compressed until it reaches the quality of natural gas;
in like manner, it can also supply the public network of gas or be used as combustible for vehicules drived by gas.
Digestors’ effluent has other applications, among them can be mentionned: compost preparation, feeding of seaweeds, fishes and animals with balanced shares.
The recovery period of a biogas plant is in general between 4 and 7 years.
Germany has more than 4000 plants of this type. China and India, Autria, Sweden, Denmark or Italy make the most of biogas in an excellent way.
